Cable Chest Fly
Hold a soft, fixed elbow and bring the hands all the way together rather than just inward. The cable keeps tension on the chest through the whole arc, including the top, where a dumbbell fly is very nearly resting against gravity.
What it works
Chest
How to do it
- 1Set the pulleys at shoulder height, take a handle in each hand and stand a stride in front of the stack so there is tension before you start.
- 2Keep a soft, fixed elbow throughout — the angle should not change — and bring the hands all the way together in front of the chest rather than just inward.
- 3Let the chest stretch as the arms open behind you.
- 4The cable is the point: at the top of a dumbbell fly the weight is almost resting against gravity, and here it never stops pulling.
Cues that matter
- ›Soft, fixed elbow throughout
- ›Bring the hands together, not just in
- ›Let the chest stretch at the back
