GK set-position footwork

Being set at the right instant saves more shots than raw reflexes do.

What it works

Calves, Glute med, Quads

How to do it

  1. 1Move around your goal with small, quick adjusting steps on the balls of your feet, and practise being completely set at the exact moment the striker makes contact.
  2. 2The cardinal rule is never to be moving when the shot is struck.
  3. 3Most goals that look like reflex failures are actually footwork failures — the keeper simply wasn't set.
  4. 4Use cones to force realistic repositioning between serves.
