Plate pinch hold

Trains the thumb against the fingers, which is the half of a grip that a bar never asks for.

What it works

Grip, Forearms

How to do it

  1. 1Take two plates and put them together with the smooth sides facing out, then pinch them between the thumb and fingers and lift.
  2. 2Keep the fingers straight and the thumb opposite them, and stand tall.
  3. 3Hold for time and set it down deliberately rather than letting it fall.
  4. 4This trains the thumb working against the fingers, which is a job a bar never gives the hand because the fingers wrap all the way round it.
