Chin-up
More biceps than a pull-up and easier to accumulate reps on, which is what builds a back.
What it works
Lats, Biceps
How to do it
- 1Palms toward you, hands about shoulder width, full hang to start.
- 2Pull by driving the elbows down into the ribs until the chin clears the bar, then lower slowly to a complete hang.
- 3The biceps take a bigger share here than in a pull-up, which is why most people can do more of them — use that to accumulate the pulling volume a back actually needs rather than grinding singles on a harder variation.
Cues that matter
- ›Palms toward you, hands about shoulder width
- ›Pull the elbows into the ribs
- ›Full hang at the bottom of every rep
