First-touch control
A clean first touch buys you the half-second that makes everything else possible.
What it works
Calves, Core
How to do it
- 1Play the ball against a wall and control the return, relaxing the receiving foot to cushion it and taking your first touch into space away from imaginary pressure.
- 2Open your body before the ball arrives so you can see the whole pitch.
- 3Alternate feet and vary the weight and height of the pass.
- 4A clean first touch buys you the half-second that makes every other decision easier.
Cues that matter
- ›Cushion the ball — relax the receiving foot
- ›Touch into space, away from pressure
- ›Open your body before it arrives
