GK handling & catching

Clean, repeatable handling is the foundation of everything else a keeper does.

What it works

Hands, Forearms, Core

How to do it

  1. 1Take varied serves — chest, above the head, at the hips, low — forming a W with your hands behind the ball, thumbs almost touching for high balls and little fingers together for low ones.
  2. 2Watch the ball all the way into your hands and cushion it on contact rather than slapping at it.
  3. 3Clean, boring, repeatable handling is the foundation everything else a keeper does is built on, and it's the first thing to fail under pressure.
