What you need

Method

  1. 1Brown the mince hard in a dry pan first and leave it alone — colour is most of the flavour here, and 80g of beef is doing the work of 250g.
  2. 2Onion into the fat with a pinch of salt, 6 minutes, then garlic and spices for one.
  3. 3Lentils, tomatoes, stock and 350ml water. Simmer 20 minutes.
  4. 4Peas in for the last three. Rice on when the lentils go in.

The lentils are not stretching the meat, they are carrying it — you get the protein of a full mince keema for about a third of the price.

Worth knowing: The lentils are not stretching the meat, they are carrying it — you get the protein of a full mince keema for about a third of the price.
